Members Only is a South Florida music collective formed by the late XXXTentacion. Today, the Florida natives release Members Only, Vol. 4 in celebration of what would have been X’s 21st birthday. The 24-track collection features Ski Mask the Slump God, XXXTentacion, Bass Santana, Flyboy Tarantino, and more. Production is handled by the likes of Richie Souf, CHASETHEMONEY, and Killstation.
On June 18, 2018, X was shot while shopping for motorcycles in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Shortly afterwards, the 20-year-old rapper was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Following his death, close friends as well as prominent rappers such as J. Cole, Kanye West, Meek Mill, and Kodak Black have paid tribute to the Broward County native.
A number of posthumous XXXTentacion releases have come out since his death, most notably his third studio album, SKINS. The project debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling an equivalent of 132,000 album units. Lil Wayne’s X-assisted single, “Don’t Cry," also received a video today in honor of the late rapper’s birthday.
X died amidst a disturbing and unresolved domestic violence case, however. Although the case was dismissed due to his death, it has continued to play out in the media in the ensuing months and caused several critics to question the rap community’s widespread embrace of the rapper after his murder.
