Yelawolf’s latest entry in the ongoing Trunk Muzik series, Trunk Muzik 3, comes six years after Trunk Muzik Returns. While more mainstream artists are leaning into the country-rap aesthetic nowadays, Yelawolf trades the country-folk elements of his more recent work for dirty south hip-hop sound that defines the Trunk Muzik series. This is his final album under Eminem’s Shady Records, and is rele in conjunction with Interscope and his own label, Slumerican.
Trunk Muzik 3 is stocked with features from notable rappers, including Machine Gun Kelly, Rittz and Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul. Yelawolf’s frequent collaborator, DJ Klever, makes an appearance on three tracks. Paul can also be found in the production credits alongside WLPWR and BandPlay.
“I’m super excited, man,” WLPWR told HipHopDX about working on Trunk Muzik 3. “Yela’s been doing some extremely good things in his own career. We took a little break from working with each other after Love Story. I produced a great majority of the Love Story album and so we just kind of chilled. I think the next step for him was to explore producing on his own. And so recently, he hit me up and we just… Like brothers, we just decided to go ahead and do it without hesitation.”
