Beast Coast just unleashed their debut album, Escape From New York. The supergroup is made up of three Brooklyn-based crews: Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, and The Underachievers. The long-awaited collection of tracks was preceded by a few pre-release singles, including “Left Hand” and “Coast/Clear.”
Powers Pleasant primarily takes the reins on the production side of things. There’s not much need for outside features when you have a big collective to draw from. MCs from each crew take a mix-and-match approach to collaborating on each song, with multiple appearances by Issa Gold, Joey Bada$$, Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution, CJ Fly, AKTHESAVIOR, Erick Arc Elliott, and Meechy Darko.
Beast Coast recently revealed that the making of “Coast/Clear” was a scramble in the wake of deadlines. “I found out we had a session, like, an hour before, and I was like, ‘Damn,’ so I started making the beat,” Powers Pleasant told Complex. “When I started it, I knew, this is the one.’ I got in the Uber, continued making it in the car on the way to the studio. I got there a little early, Erick showed up, and I finished the beat.”
