Today, Camila Cabello released her third studio album, Familia, the long-awaited follow-up to her 2019 sophomore effort, Romance. Cabello took a year-and-a-half break from solo music after Romance dropped before returning with “Don’t Go Yet,” the first single off Familia. She later offered another taste of the LP with “Bam Bam,” featuring Ed Sheeran.
Familia might be Cabello’s most personal project to date, exploring everything from her public breakup with Shawn Mendes and her split from girl group Fifth Harmony to her family life. The Cuban American singer attributes that vulnerability to the fact that she only worked with a few songwriters and producers for the project, including Ricky Reed, Jose Castillo, and Scott Harris. Cabello keeps the features to a minimum too, enlisting only WILLOW, Ed Sheeran, Yotuel, and Maria Becerra to guest on tracks.
“Obviously, I want to make good songs, but to me, I just want to have a good time in the studio and feel safe and feel relaxed and feel like I’m being true to myself,” Cabello told E! News. “Compared to my previous albums, I think I’m just in a better, more grounded, more well-rounded space.”
