It almost doesn’t feel like summer if there’s not a new Drake banger to blast at every party. Luckily, Drizzy agrees. After announcing his seventh studio LP in an Instagram post late yesterday evening, the Canadian superstar surprise-dropped the album, called Honestly, Nevermind, at midnight.
At 14 tracks long, Honestly, Nevermind is a shorter project than we’ve grown accustomed to from Drake, whose previous two efforts—2021’s Certified Lover Boy and 2018’s Scorpion—each spanned over 20 tracks. Drizzy also opted for a shorter guest list this time around, only linking with rapper 21 Savage for the closing song, “Jimmy Cooks.”
Alongside the release of Honestly, Nevermind, Drake shared the wedding-themed music video for its second cut, “Falling Back.” The clip features a cameo from NBA player Tristan Thompson and shows Drizzy marrying several women.
In a poetic statement, the Toronto native also explained the message behind Honestly, Nevermind. “I let my humbleness turn to numbness at times letting time go by knowing I got the endurance to catch it another time,” the rapper said in a note. “I work with every breath in my body cause it’s the work not air that makes me feel alive. That’s some real detrimental shit but that’s that shit my perfectionist mind doesn’t really mind because no one knows whats on my mind when I go to sleep at 9 & wake up at 5—unless I say it in rhyme. I got here being realistic/I didn’t get here being blind/I know whats what and especially what and who is by my side/Honestly…Nevermind.”
