Jaden Smith has been teasing a new project for several months now, and today he unveiled SYRE: The Electric Album. Rather than new songs, the project is a five-track rework of his 2017 debut SYRE, featuring new instrumentation and a mixture of old and new vocals on different songs. He released the project entirely on Instagram along with a full video for each song, uploading one-minute clips to his profile and sharing each song in its entirety via IGTV.
Smith opted to rework SYRE highlights “B,” “Ninety,” “Lost Boy,” “Fallen,” and “Icon” for his new project. The original SYRE proved to be fairly successful for Jaden, spawning the Gold-certified single “Icon"—which later received a parody video and an official remix courtesy of his father Will Smith—and racking up nearly three million pageviews on Genius across its 17 tracks.
Although each song on SYRE: The Electric Album is based on one from the original album, they all have new elements. In addition to new instrumentation, many songs feature new verses or reworked versions of the original lyrics. For example, he added an entire new verse to “Ninety,” rapping:
Girl I’m traumatized
Said I left my bags in the mountain
That’s when you told us we were all suprised
Don’t worry baby girl I’m on your side
Oh, when I open my eyes
