Kevin Abstract Addresses Nostalgia & Queerbaiting On ‘ARIZONA baby’

The BROCKHAMPTON rapper shares three new songs.

Kevin Abstract has spent the last few years busy with his boyband BROCKHAMPTON, but today he unleashed a trio of new solo tracks under the title ARIZONA baby. The release has sparked speculation that Abstract is readying a full solo album. If so, it would be his first since American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story in 2016.

All three songs are produced by pop hitmaker Jack Antonoff and BROCKHAMPTON’s own Romil Hemnani, and feature lyrics heavy with nostalgia. Abstract reminisces on the days before his rise to fame and reflects on how things have changed since then.

“Georgia” finds Abstract remembering the early days of BROCKHAMPTON, when the group would pack manager Jon Nunes' car with their merchandise:

All of us in Jon’s car
Packed the trunk with merch, I was tryna be a star
Same time I was cool with Uzi, dawg, my life felt like a movie
I left my troubled home, Hollywood, what the fuck am I doing?

On “Joy Ride,” he mourns missed experiences:

Back in ‘09, was a mall rat
Glock to my head, baby, holla back
Is there any way I can get college back?
'Cause I know I missed out on what I lack

Meanwhile, “Big Wheels” finds Abstract pushing back against claims that he only raps about his sexuality to “queerbait” the gay community into supporting him:

My niggas back home ain’t proud of me
They think I’m a bitch, just queerbaitin'
Quit bein' a bitch and quit hatin'
Y'all pump fakin'
I’m a power bottom like a Free Mason
Y'all stuck playin', that’s complacent, I’m cum-chasin'

Abstract has already teased more new music on Twitter, although it’s not exactly clear whether ghettobaby is a single or another multi-track release:
