Over the years, L.A rapper Nipsey Hussle has continued to stand out from the crowd. Today, the Slauson rapper unveils his long-awaited debut album Victory Lap. The 15-track album features Kendrick Lamar, YG, Buddy, The-Dream, Diddy and more. It’s produced by DJ Mustard, Teddy Walton, 1500 or Nothin’, Ralo, and other in-house producers.
Leading up to the project’s release, Nipsey partnered with Atlantic Records to “give [the album’s] message the best chance to be heard and consumed on the highest level.” Nipsey has released several projects since 2013’s hundred-dollar album Crenshaw before he started dropping Victory Lap singles such as “Rap Niggas,” “Last Time That I Checc’d” featuring YG, and “Dedication” featuring Kendrick Lamar. Last month, he released a TIDAL-exclusive mini-documentary titled 10 Rings—which highlighted his most recent achievements—and signed an equity deal with the Blockchain-based music start up VEZT.
In an interview with Rap-Up, Nipsey explained the album’s themes are “real consistent, it’s almost like one topic that I sliced up into 16 different takes and the topic is just like what happened.” Hussle also went into depth about Diddy’s involvement with the album, revealing that also helped compose and produce songs off the project: “I thought I was done but he heard the record and was like, ‘Nah, here’s shit we can do to it.’ So we opened it back up.”
