Theatrical emo-pop standard bearers Panic! At the Disco return today with their seventh studio album, Viva Las Vengeance. It’s the follow-up to 2018’s Pray for the Wicked, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the Top 5 single “High Hopes.” This time around, PATD mastermind Brendon Urie recorded straight to tape in Los Angeles with co-producers Jake Sinclair and Mike Viola. That approach had a huge impact on the sound of the record.
“Viva Las Vengeance is a look back at who I was 17 years ago and who I am now with the fondness I didn’t have before,” Urie said in a statement. “I didn’t realize I was making an album and there was something about the tape machine that kept me honest.”
Urie previewed the album with the singles “Don’t Let the Light Go Out,” “Local God,” “Middle of a Breakup,” and “Viva Las Vengeance,” all of which made the Top 10 on the Genius Top Songs chart.
