Three years after dropping his third studio album, Hollywood’s Bleeding, Post Malone has returned with Twelve Carat Toothache, his fourth LP and “most honest record” yet, according to the Texas-raised star.
Nearly half of the 14 tracks on Twelve Carat Toothache are high-profile collaborations. Among them, Malone links with Doja Cat (“I Like You (A Happier Song)”), The Kid LAROI (“Wasting Angels”), and perhaps most surprisingly, indie folk band Fleet Foxes (“Love/Hate Letter to Alcohol”). All of the songs, however, share one common theme: duality. “That’s what the whole record is about,” Malone told Zane Lowe. “It’s the bipolar aspect and the duality of everything … Every song in there tells a story, so this is kind of like, ‘Here’s the life that we live, but there’s always something going on in the background.’”
Leading up to the release of Twelve Carat Toothache, Malone dropped two singles, “One Right Now,” which features the Weeknd, and the Roddy Ricch-assisted “Cooped Up.” He also performed the latter track on SNL—along with his Fleet Foxes link-up—a few weeks ahead of the LP’s arrival.
