Rod Wave returned today with his fourth studio album, Beautiful Mind. The project was originally set to drop June 10, but the Florida-born artist pushed back the release date for undisclosed reasons. Beautiful Mind follows 2021’s SoulFly, which earned Wave his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Leading up to its release, Wave shared four singles: “Alone,” “Cold December,” “By Your Side,” and “Stone Rolling.” He also shared the LP’s tracklist, which revealed guest spots from Jack Harlow and December Joy.
If the singles are any indication, Beautiful Mind continues Wave’s tendency to write introspective, emotionally charged lyrics. He explained why he chooses to be so vulnerable in his music in an interview with Montreality. “I could make club songs,” Wave said. “I could make bangers and shit that don’t make no sense. I could make that shit all day … I don’t wanna feed nobody no bullshit. I could tell you about pounds, I could tell you about trappin’, I could tell you about stealin’ and robbin’ and killin’, I could do that. It’s just that I don’t wanna do that. It’s a new trapper-rapper every day.”
