His previous movie, ‘Us,’ included a remake of Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It.”

The trailer for Jordan Peele’s latest horror film, Candyman, arrived today. It features a creepy spin on Destiny’s Child’s No. 1 hit, “Say My Name.”

It’s an appropriate choice for the film, which is a direct sequel to the 1992 movie of the same name. In the plot, the titular character is summoned by saying his name five times.

On the “Say My Name” chorus, Destiny’s Child sing in part:

Say my name, say my name
If no one is around you

The Rodney Jerkins-produced track was released as the third single from the trio’s second studio album, 1999’s Writing’s on the Wall, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It later won Grammys for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song. The song has been sampled on tracks like Drake’s “Girls Love Beyoncé,” Common’s “Stay Schemin',” and T.I.’s “At Least I Know.”

Candyman follows in the footsteps of Peele’s 2019 horror film, Us, which featured a “tethered remix” of Luniz’s 1995 hit, “I Got 5 On It.” He produced Candyman with Win Rosenfeld and Ian Cooper, while also writing the screenplay with Rosenfeld and director Nia DaCosta.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Colman Domingo star in the movie, while Tony Todd returns as the title character. Candyman is set to arrive in US theaters on June 12, 2020.
