Earlier this year, R&B singer Snoh Aalegra earned her first No. 1 hit when the slow-buzzing “I Want You Around” topped the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart. The Roc Nation signee recently gave a special performance of Usher’s 2001 single, “U Remind Me,” as part of Genius and Burberry’s When Sounds Collide partnership with producer and keyboardist Doctor O. While paying homage to the classic summer hit, Aalegra gave it an unexpected twist by flipping the gender of the lyrics to address a boy instead of a girl.
Aalegra’s career got its proper start in 2014 with her debut EP, There Will Be Sunshine. She also became a protégé of the legendary Prince, who mentored her until he died in 2016. Before dropping her debut album, 2017’s FEELS, Aalegra received another major cosign from Drake, who sampled her single, “Time” on his More Life cut, “Do Not Disturb.”
In 2019, Aalegra’s star grew even brighter thanks to her sophomore album, - Ugh, those feels again. Highlighted by “I Want You Around,” it debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and earned critical acclaim. Not content to rest on her recent laurels, Aalegra dropped her latest single, “DYING 4 YOUR LOVE,” in July 2020, and paved the way for her next album.
