“I think before you open up to someone you always feel scared.”

Camila Cabello is back with her latest single, “Easy.” This is the fourth release off her upcoming sophomore album, Romance, following “Liar,” “Shameless,” and “Cry For Me.”

Produced by Louis Bell, Carter Lang, Westen Weiss, and Frank Dunes, the track seemingly opens on a bit of confrontation:

You tell me that I’m complicated
And that might be an understatement
Anything else? (Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha)
You tell me that I’m indecisive
Fickle, but I try to hide it
Anything else? (Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha)
You tell me that I overthink
‘Til I ruin a good thing
Anything else? (Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha)

But then that tension subsides on a chorus that does justice to the album title:

Always thought I was hard to love
‘Til you made it seem so easy, seem so easy (So easy, yeah)
Always thought I was hard to love (To love)
'Til you made it seem so easy, seem so easy (So easy, yeah)
Touch me 'til I find myself, in a feeling (Oh)
Tell me with your hands that you’re never leaving (Oh, never)

She broke down the meaning behind the song in an Instagram caption:

I wrote this song about the kind of love that makes you love yourself more , I think before you open up to someone you always feel scared that once they see all the stuff you don’t like about yourself , all the things you’re insecure about, that they won’t like you anymore – and when someone sees those things and loves you not only in spite of them, but because of them, it makes you feel truly seen for who you are , and loved for who you are too

The rollout for “Easy” slightly diverges from her previous strategy of double-single drops—although “Cry For Me” was only released a week ago. Last month’s simultaneous release of “Liar” and “Shameless” followed a precedent: “OMG” was previously paired with “Havana”, while “Never Be The Same” dropped alongside “Real Friends.”

Cabello previously spoke about the direction of her album in a press statement. “These songs are basically the story of my life the past couple years and the stories I’ve accumulated,” she said. “I knew for a long time I wanted my album to be called Romance because these stories are about falling in love.”

She also touched on the project’s progress on the Zach Sang Show. “I have all the songs for it,” she said. “I don’t think it needs anything, but I’m always writing because I’m always inspired.” While the release date remains unclear, she told The Telegraph that she wrote 72 songs for the album.

The pop superstar will head to the Saturday Night Live stage as the musical guest on Oct. 12.
