Tove Lo Struggles To Survive Heartbreak On New Song “No One Dies From Love”

The pop singer first teased the song back in November 2021.

This week, Tove Lo finally released “No One Dies From Love,” the first single off her upcoming fifth LP. She’s been teasing the track since November 2021, when she shared the title on Instagram. The song also marks Lo’s first release on her newly launched Pretty Swede label through mtheory. Lo says the decision to start her own label came from a desire to have a little more creative freedom in her music. “I’m a pop girl, but I like to make things weird and be in full control of the whole vision,” she explained in a statement. “This is the perfect way to put out exactly what I want.”

Lo wrote “No One Dies From Love” with longtime collaborator Ludvig Söderberg. The Swedish pop singer says she wanted the song to be “heartbreak you can dance to.” “When you’re with someone for a long time and it ends all of all sudden, it’s like a part of you has died,” Lo says of the song. “This person is now a stranger to you. All of the memories are tainted. For the first part of the breakup, you believe you’re not supposed to feel good about anything you had together.”

On the first verse, we learn that Lo isn’t the only one suffering post-breakup.

We were so magical, why end this way?
I know you’re furious, yeah, just like me

We get a sense of how Lo’s breakup unfolded on the pre-chorus. The ending was abrupt—and heated.

It escalated so fast
We yelled things we can’t take back

Tove Lo’s heartache is so painful, she isn’t sure she’ll reach the light at the other end of the tunnel on the hook.

No one dies from love
Guess I’ll be the first
Will you remember us?
Or are the memories too stained with blood now?

On the second verse, she worries her ex isn’t suffering as much as she is.

Keep writin’ letters I’ll never send
Don’t want you movin’ on when it’s my end

“No One Dies From Love” arrived alongside an Alaska-directed music video. In the futuristic clip, Tove Lo falls in love with a robot.
