One day, while scrolling through her social media feed, Tate McRae started feeling terrible. “I was hating everything about myself,” the Canadian singer-songwriter tells Genius. “I was comparing myself to every single girl, and it literally left me the most bitter taste in my mouth.”
That unpleasant experience led to “she’s all i wanna be,” which she wrote with hitmaking producer Greg Kurstin. The song started out as a mournful ballad before McRae suggested they give it some upbeat punk energy. That was the right call, as the song is now racking up millions of streams.
