Three Songs On Don Toliver’s ‘Heaven Or Hell’ Are From Travis Scott’s ‘Astroworld’ Sessions

The Cactus Jack signee recorded 10 songs at the Hawaii sessions.

After emerging as the breakout star from Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack compilation, JACKBOYS, Houston native Don Toliver just landed his first Top 10 album with Heaven or Hell. In a new Complex interview, Toliver revealed that he recorded three of his debut studio album’s 12 tracks during Travis' final ASTROWORLD sessions in Hawaii.

“I recorded about 10 records,” he explained. “Travis liked ‘CAN’T SAY,’ so he jumped on that. And now a couple of those records are going on Heaven or Hell.”

Toliver ended up putting three songs on the album that were originally made during the ASTROWORLD sessions: “Cardigan,” “Spaceship,” and “After Party.” “Cardigan” has emerged as a fan favorite from Heaven or Hell, racking up more than 100,000 total Genius pageviews and 8.5 million Spotify streams in less than two weeks—more than any other brand new track on the project.

It’s been a steady rise for the Trap&B artist since first coming into the mainstream with his appearance on “CAN’T SAY,” which peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. Earlier this year, both of his JACKBOYS appearances, “HAD ENOUGH” and “WHAT IT DO?,” landed on the Hot 100 as well, simultaneously joining his already-buzzing solo single, “No Idea,” on the chart.

This week, Toliver earned his first entry on the Billboard 200. Heaven or Hell debuted at No. 7, garnering 44,000 equivalent album units during its first week.
