Trippie Redd & Juice WRLD’s “1400 / 999 Freestyle” Samples A 2016 Song By OVO Singer PLAZA

“Wanting You” appears on PLAZA’s debut EP, ‘One.’

Trippie Redd’s A Love Letter To You 3 arrived last week, and several songs are in the running to achieve breakout success. Amongst them is Trippie’s Juice WRLD collaboration, “1400 / 999 Freestyle,” which finds the two buzzing rappers teaming up for the first time. The track is produced by OZ and Pas Beatz, and heavily samples the 2016 song “Wanting You” by OVO signee PLAZA.

PLAZA’s track is produced by the Toronto-based CAMP 30, who has worked on everything PLAZA has released since he emerged in 2016. “WANTING YOU” is the first song on the singer’s debut EP, One, and stands as one of the shadowy artist’s more popular releases.

On “1400 / 999 Freestyle,” Trippie and Juice WRLD exchange verses about drug use and the perks of fame:

I’m a different man when I’m off of the molly
Used to take five Xans to the face in the morning
Now I take Percs, my stomach turnin'
Stopped taking Percs, my stomach burnin'

Thus far, the song has earned over 38,000 pageviews on Genius, and it currently stands as the fourth-most-popular song from A Love Letter To You 3 on the site. It sits at No. 32 on Genius' Top Songs chart, and could be set to overtake songs like “Love Scars 3” and “Negative Energy” featuring Kodie Shane in upcoming weeks.
