Slain rapper XXXTentacion’s first posthumous release arrived on Thursday as Trippie Redd shared their collaboration “Ghost Busters.” The track is produced by Da Honorable C.N.O.T.E. and features Ski Mask The Slump God as well as Quavo, whose verse was added after its initial release on Trippie’s SoundCloud and Worldstar’s YouTube. Trippie first previewed the song on his Instagram earlier this year.
On the chorus, Trippie boasts about his Rolls-Royce Ghost while referencing the cartoons Casper the Friendly Ghost and Danny Phantom:
Pull up in a Ghost, big body Ghost
Casper, that’s a ghost, Danny Phantom ghost
Bitch, I’m going ghost, bitch, I’m going ghost
It appears that Ski Mask’s verse was recorded after XXXTentacion’s untimely death on Monday evening, as he vows to find his friend’s murderer:
Okay, I just lost my dog, Adventure Time
Message to his killer, I’m gon' find
Meanwhile, XXXTentacion dares his enemies to test him while name-dropping Detroit rapper DeJ Loaf:
Bitch, I’m going ghost
Let a pussy nigga try me like I’m Dej Loaf
Trippie and XXXTentacion had an up-and-down relationship while the late rapper was still alive, but it’s apparent that the death had a profound effect on the Canton, Ohio native. Trippie revealed it was his birthday on the date of X’s passing, and has also dyed his hair in tribute to the Florida rapper. Similarly, Ski Mask has shared old photos with XXXTentacion on social media.
Both Trippie and XXXTentacion have made headlines for allegations of assault. Earlier this month, Trippie was arrested for pistol-whipping a woman. Prior to his death, XXXTentacion was awaiting multiple felony charges including battery and aggravated assault of a pregnant victim, battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment.
Earlier this week, Chicago rapper Juice WRLD shared his own tribute to XXXTentacion with his new EP Too Soon… while also memorializing Lil Peep, who died of a drug overdose last November.
