Troye Sivan Enlists PinkPantheress and Hyunjin of Stray Kids for New “Rush (Remix)”

The original dropped back in July.

Back in July, Troye Sivan released “Rush,” a euphoric dance track that’s become a sleeper pick for song of the summer. Today, with September closing in, Sivan returns with a brand-new remix featuring U.K. singer, songwriter, and producer PinkPantheress and HYUNJIN of the K-pop group Stray Kids. The reworked “Rush” quickly landed inside the Top 5 of the Genius Top Songs chart.

“Rush (Remix)” credits the same three producers as the original—Styalz Fuego, NOVODOR, and Zhone—and it starts off the same way, with an intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and post-chorus sung by Sivan. Where this new version differs is in the second verse, supplied by PinkPantheress.

As many people have pointed out, and as Sivan himself has acknowledged, the title “Rush” alludes to a brand of poppers, a drug popular in the club scene. PinkPantheress may be referencing drugs in her verse, as she asks her lover to “take this with me” right after fessing up to dancing with someone else.

I know you’re somebody interested in dancin’
I just told my lover, “Baby, tell me” (Yeah)
“Did you really care I two-stepped with another?”
But you’re still my sunshine, take this with me
And I finished it so I know I’m sure
Haven’t done this since September
Right around then you were at my door

Even if she’s not talking about mind-altering substances, she’s thinking back on a wild night she can barely piece together. It was super fun, but it’s maybe not the kind of thing she wants to repeat.

I can barely still remember
How did we end up on the floor?
Can we go some more?
Somehow I think we’re better off just dancin’

Hyunjin—whom Sivan previously thirsted after on TikTok—has a fairly limited role in the remix. He adds vocals to the final pre-chorus, chorus, post-chorus, and outro.

“Rush” is the lead single off Sivan’s forthcoming third album, Something to Give Each Other, which drops October 13. As you wait for the LP, you can read all the lyrics to “Rush” and its remix on Genius now.
