Tyler, The Creator has kept a steady stream of freestyles and loosies coming over the past few months, but today he decided to revisit his 2017 album Flower Boy by releasing a video for “See You Again.” The video finds Tyler, Kali Uchis, and A$AP Rocky aboard a Navy aircraft carrier. Towards the end of the video, it cuts over to Tyler’s other Flower Boy track “Where This Flower Blooms,” which features Frank Ocean.
Although “See You Again” is a love song, Kali Uchis does mention war on the chorus:
Can I get a kiss?
And can you make it last forever?
I said I’m ‘bout to go to war
And I don’t know if I'ma see you again
Tyler previously told Jerrod Carmichael that the song’s chorus wasn’t meant literally. “Going to war is just I’m gonna wake up and go to the real world,” he said in the January interview. He also noted that the song is about a dream romance, something he sings about on the first verse:
You live in my dream state
Anytime I count sheep
That’s the only time we make up, make up
You exist behind my eyelids, my eyelids
Now I don’t wanna wake up
Tyler previously revealed that he wrote “See You Again” for ZAYN, but decided to keep it for himself after the former One Direction singer was a no-show at their scheduled studio time. The rapper is a noted ZAYN fan, having remixed “PILLOWTALK” back in 2016.
