The rappers’ 2018 collaboration, “POTATO SALAD,” accompanied a premature project announcement.

A$AP Mob’s 2018 AWGE DVD made headlines by announcing a joint project titled WANG$AP by A$AP Rocky and Tyler, The Creator. It even included “POTATO SALAD,” a freestyle over Monica’s “Knock Knock” beat that seemed to serve as the first taste. Tyler pushed back against the idea that a joint project was imminent soon after the DVD’s release, however, and today on Twitter he revealed that WANG$AP doesn’t really exist:

This is a stronger repudiation of the joint album idea than his tweet last July, when he said:

Ima kill rocky for that idk whats coming soon or not dont get yo hopes up nigga just be excited but enjoy it.

Although the AWGE DVD was the first explicit reference to WANG$AP as a joint project, it’s not the first time they’ve used the term. Rocky referenced it on “What the Fuck Right Now” in 2016, as well as on “Who Dat Boy” from Tyler’s 2017 album Flower Boy.

Rocky notably discussed studio work with Tyler in a recent interview with Angie Martinez, although he didn’t specifically mention a joint album. “I’m working on my music now. Working on another project,” he said. “Working with my brother Tyler, the Creator. His dumbass.”

Genius previously broke down the two rappers' close creative relationship:

A$AP Rocky’s latest release is the Tame Impala-sampling “Sundress” from November 2018, while Tyler rounded out the year with contributions to The Grinch soundtrack.
