Yelawolf Samples His 2010 Track “Trunk Muzik” On “Trunk Muzik (Intro)”

The upcoming ‘Trunk Muzik 3’ will be his final album on Shady Records.

Yelawolf makes a callback to one of his earliest hits on “Trunk Muzik (Intro),” the first song from Trunk Muzik 3. The intro samples 2010’s “Trunk Muzik,” and both records are produced by WLPWR.

On the track, Yelawolf raps about his public perception and his relationship with Eminem. Yelawolf signed with Em’s Shady Records in 2011, but the Alabama rapper announced Trunk Muzik 3 will be his final record on the label. He raps on “Trunk Muzik (Intro)”:

Fuck the world and I’m not sorry
The priest was thinkin' I’m Illuminati
‘Cause Eminem is a close kin
He might as well be 'cause I give him hell
For that white bread, put the toast in
Not simply a rapper (Uh)

Released on his 2010 mixtape of the same name, the original “Trunk Muzik,” along with songs like “Pop the Trunk” and “Box Chevy 3” helped Yelawolf gain a following and major label interest.

On “Trunk Muzik,” Yelawolf raps about his down home upbringing in Gadsden, Alabama, while also referencing the 2006 Will Ferrell movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. He says:

I have to be the hardest, I got diamond nuts
I piss excellence, Ricky Bobby lines ‘em up
Catfish Billy half-pints 'em up
Yelawolf country fries 'em up

Trunk Muzik was eventually re-released as an EP called Trunk Muzik 0-60, and Yelawolf followed that with the 2013 mixtape Trunk Muzik Returns, but Trunk Muzik 3 is the first in the series to be an official studio album.

Yelawolf recently made headlines for his “Bloody Sunday” freestyle, on which he dissed Post Malone, G-Eazy, and Machine Gun Kelly. Like “Trunk Muzik (Intro),” “Bloody Sunday” features a credited appearance by DJ Klever, who has been Yelawolf’s touring DJ since 2014.

Genius broke down some of Yelawolf’s mentor Eminem’s speediest flows in the video below.
