Former One Direction star ZAYN has rolled out half-a-dozen singles since the release of his debut album, Mind of Mine in 2016, but so far most of them have stalled out on the lower reaches of the Hot 100 chart. While he still awaits a release date for his sophomore album, ZAYN is trying to recapture buzz with the release of his new single, “No Candle No Light.” The song features Nicki Minaj, while production is handled by Brian Lee, TJ Routon, and Sawry.
“No Candle No Light” finds ZAYN and Nicki reflecting on a dying relationship:

The song’s chorus features a high-pitched instrumental breakdown that’s reminiscent of Justin Bieber’s 2015 Jack Ü collaboration “Where R Ü Now.”
Earlier this month, ZAYN spoke about feeling frustrated by the lack of a release date for his sophomore album:
Since early 2017, ZAYN has dropped seven other singles: “Dusk Til Dawn,” “Let Me,” “Entertainer,” “Still Got Time,” “Sour Diesel,” “Fingers,” and “Too Much.” It’s unclear which ones are set to appear on his still-untitled sophomore album.
