Zara Larsson’s hit single “Lush Life” was originally released back in June 2015 but it took a full year for the song to start to buzz. It ended up debuting at No. 97 on the Hot 100 in July 2016—and peaked at No. 2 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. Since its release, it’s been streamed over 500 million times on Spotify and it all came together at a writing camp in Stockholm.
“[The writing camp] is a lot of people, producers, writers, top liners—they come in and we have a studio complex in Stockholm, so we got a lot of studios,” she tells Genius. “We just put a little group in every room. And ‘Lush Life’ was really the only song that stood out that I was like, ‘Whoa. What is this?’”
Larsson sat down with Genius for the latest episode of Verified, where she broke down the lyrics and meaning of the Shuko and Freedo-produced track. You can read all the lyrics to ““Lush Life” on Genius now and check out past episodes below.
