Voyage is ABBA’s long-awaited ninth studio album, set to be released on November 5, 2021 – exactly 39 years, 11 months, and 6 days since the group’s previous studio album, The Visitors. The first two singles from the album, “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down”, were released on September 2, 2021, alongisde a YouTube live stream announcing the album and accompanying ABBAtar hologram concert.
Soon after first reuniting in 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bjorn Ulveaus and Benny Andersson – ABBA’s principle songwriters – first meeting, the group announced that they were planning to create digital avatars that would go on tour and play the group’s greatest hits. Not long after this announcement, ABBA began to record two new songs, “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down”, which were announced in 2018. Due to delays in getting the project together, the group later announced that 5 new songs would be released in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was delayed and ABBA decided to record a full album. Meanwhile, for the hologram concert, a facility called the “ABBA Arena” was built in London, England to host it.
Among the eight brand new songs, the album will also include “Just A Notion”, originally intended for inclusion on the Thank You for the Music box set in 1994, only to be rejected due to mixing issues, and instead only included as a small snippet in the “ABBA Undeleted” medley. The song was originally recorded in 1978 during early sessions for ABBA’s sixth studio album, Voulez-Vous.

Björn Ulvaeus:
I don’t know of anybody who’s done it. Is there anybody? I constantly have those moments when I think, ‘How the hell did this all happen? Why is it that suddenly on TikTok two million people are following what we are doing?’ It’s weird. It’s all weird.
We asked the ladies and they were absolutely enthusiastic about going into the studio and trying their voices again. And then after a while we thought, why not record a couple more? And there was absolutely nobody breathing down our necks.
The reason why it works is that we are still alive. The cranium does not change over time. The rest of your body falls apart, but the cranium, they could take exact measurements, which they cannot with a video of Elvis. I bet you there are a lot of singers who will have these in a couple years. Everyone should have an ABBAtar.

How was the album teased prior to its release?
In 2018, the band announced they are releasing two brand new songs titled “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down.” They made it into a larger project after it had to be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Later in 2021, ABBA started teasing a project called ABBA Voyage, coming September 2nd, 2021, and billboards promoting the project started showing up around London.
