All True Man

Alexander O’Neal

About “All True Man”

All True Man is Alexander O’Neal’s third album (excluding the holiday release My Gift To You). It would be O’Neal’s last working with superproducer team Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Though the duo were supposed to be more closely involved in All True Man, O’Neal’s drug addiction forced the two to drop out of their involvement midway through the process. The sudden departure is evident in their partial credits on songs like “Shame On Me”, “Every Time I Get Up,” and “Somebody (Changed Your Mind).”

Before jumping the ship, they delivered the album’s classic title song, as well as the singles “What Is This Thing Called Love,” “The Yoke (G.U.O.T.R.),” and “Sentimental.” The album reached #3 on the US R&B charts and #2 on the UK Album Chart.

The album also provided a pithy, clever title for Alexander’s 2017 autobiography All True, Man.
