Two the Hard Way

Allman and Woman

About “Two the Hard Way”

Two the Hard Way is the only album released by the duo of Gregg Allman and Cher, billed as Allman and Woman. The album was a product of the two musicians' turbulent relationship and marriage, and attempted to fuse Allman’s southern rock with Cher’s idiosyncratic pop.

The album was a critical and commercial failure. In a review of the album, Rolling Stone wrote:

It’s hard to imagine a more inappropriate combination … It’s the bottom of the barrel after a long fall for Gregg, and more of the same for Cher.

The album was supported by the Two the Hard Way Tour, which was also a failure. What was originally planned to be a 29-date tour would turn out to only be a 16-date tour, due to Cher pulling the plug midway through and leaving Allman in Europe while she headed back to the United States with her children. Their divorce would follow immediately after the tour’s completion, after Cher discovering that Allman had relapsed into his alcohol problem.

The album has been long out of print, never being issued on CD or iTunes.
