The Human Demands is the upcoming fifth studio album by Amy Macdonald, due to be released on October 30, 2020 via Infectious / BMG.
“The Hudson” was released as the lead single on August 27, 2020: the song premiered on BBC Radio 2 with Ken Bruce.
Amy explained to Wonderland Magazine that the main themes of the album will be about getting older, life, depression and love:
It’s an album about life and the ups and downs that come with it. It’s never easy for anyone and I don’t think we give ourselves enough credit sometimes. I wanted the album title to reflect the reality of life for the majority of people. I think it is definitely more personal than anything else I’ve written. I felt a bit of a change when I got married. You start to see things a bit differently and as you get older you realise more and more what’s important and what isn’t. I think as a woman with a career it can be quite challenging getting older. You are constantly bombarded with questions about having kids and the impact on your career that it can be quite a strange time for a woman in their 30s. I think subconsciously that’s come through in a lot of these songs. I’ve been doing this since I was 17 and now I’m 33.
I want fans to feel liken they’re not alone. I think music can be such a wonderful way to connect people. I feel so lucky that I have fans that have been with me from the very beginning. I have fans that have told me how much my music has helped them. I feel deeply honoured to be in that position and I just want to return the favour with a collection of songs that I think will resonate with all these people.
