The third studio album by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run broke him into the mainstream, with the album being a commercial success. It also garnered acclaim from numerous critics. It featured epic, operatic masterpieces like “Jungleland”, “Backstreets”, “Thunder Road” and the title track.
The first song to be completed was “Born To Run”, in August 1974, at 914 Sound Studios, Blauvelt, New York. With the exception of Suki Lahav’s violin overdub on “Jungleland”, the rest of the album was recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York City, between April and July 1975.
In 2005, a 30th anniversary boxed set was released with a CD of the remastered album and two DVDs: one a documentary of Born to Run in its making and the other a concert video.
Despite its popularity among fans, critics, and radio stations, Born to Run was never nominated for a Grammy.
Bruce has said that he wanted the album to sound like, “Roy Orbison singing Bob Dylan, produced by Spector.”
