Magic

Bruce Springsteen

About “Magic”

Magic, Springsteen’s fifteenth album, follows after The Rising touching on the troubles surrounding the Iraq War and the disillusionment of American society with the Bush administration and their claims of WMDs in Iraq.

One major recurring theme is the loss of American values and thus identity, such as in “Your Own Worst Enemy,” “Magic,” and “Long Walk Home.” The other theme is the Iraq War and its aftermath as highlighted in “Gypsy Biker,” “Last to Die,” and “Devil’s Arcade,” much like Springsteen captured the diverse reactions and aftermath of 9/11 in The Rising.

The album is ranked #2 on Rolling Stone’s Top 50 album of 2007.
