About “worm food”

worm food is the fifth studio album from UK singer-songwriter Cavetown, his first major release since 2021 EP Man’s Best Friend.

Three singles were released prior to the album, starting with “fall in love with a girl”, featuring Filipino-British singer beabadoobee, being released in February of 2022, followed by “1994” almost seven months later in September, and “frog” releasing on October 19.

Although the first single was released back in February, it wasn’t clear if it would be an album single or not. The first official teaser of a new “era” came from a series of short clips posted to social media starting from August 20 and ending with the release of “1994” and the announcement of the album on September 9.

Following on from their first major label album, Sleepyhead, Cavetown continues with raw songs about self acceptance and working through difficulties, while experimenting with voice manipulation similar to on “I Want to Meet Ur Dog,” a release from the Man’s Best Friend era. Cavetown mentioned in an interview on the album’s release day that much of the late stages of mixing was inspired by electronic musician underscores (who he later went on to cover for a track on the deluxe edition of worm food).

“worm food” Q&A

  • Is there official animated cover?

Yes, Apple Music features an animated artwork for this release.

  • Behind The Scenes: Album Cover

  • What has the artist said about the album?

I think every album I write is just like a collection of diary entries from different times in my life. [The] older albums focus more on my struggles with my identity because that’s what I was going through at the time. This one for sure has a theme, but it’s hard to put my finger on what it is exactly while I’m still in it, you know? Maybe it’s about acceptance of feeling bad? Like things might not get better but that’s okay? I’ll probably figure it out when I’m on the other side of it.

  • What has Cavetown said about collaborating with so many different artists?

    In an interview with earmilk.com:

Really amazing. I love working with friends – it’s always really chill and fun and nothing feels forced. It was particularly special for me getting to work with Vic, as I listened to his band Pierce the Veil a lot growing up and really looked up to him as a musician. It’s been amazing getting to know him and I hope we get to work together more in the future too.
