About “Falling Into Infinity Demos”

Falling Into Infinity is Dream Theater’s fourth album, released in 1997. The band orinally set out to continue their progressive metal tradition with multiple 10-minute-plus tracks. However, after Awake didn’t get as many sales as the label or the band had hoped for, the label pressured Dream Theater to make their next album more radio-friendly.
In 2007, Mike Portnoy released a demo version for Falling Into Infinity, giving the fans a behind-the-scenes look at what Dream Theater set out to do on FII, including the original version of Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory, which was orginally intended to be one single song, until the label pushed Dream Theater to cut it, since long progressive metal songs aren’t exactly radio-friendly.
