Head First

Head First is the fifth studio album by English electronic music duo Goldfrapp, consisting of producers Alison Goldfrapp (vocals, synthesizer) and Will Gregory (synthesizer). Released in 2010, the album is defined by its ‘80s synths and drums, uplifting italo-disco anthems and romantic lyrics. The album’s positive outlook was greatly inspired by Alison’s relationship with film editor Lisa Gunning.

Alison Goldfrapp told Times:

We wanted to make a direct and euphoric sound,“ she says. "It’s very much about the melodies and the celebratory feel to the songs. Atmosphere-wise and sentiment-wise, they’re kind of… fun.”

She elaborated on Wales Online:

I think there is a certain naivety to it all, and it’s very up and optimistic and vibrant. It has big fat synth melodies, and there are a lot of hands-in-the-air moments to it, too."
