Live Era ’87–’93

Guns N’ Roses

About “Live Era ’87–’93”

Live Era ‘87–'93 is a double live album by the American hard rock band Guns N’ Roses. It was released on November 23, 1999. The record was the first official Guns N' Roses release since The Spaghetti Incident? released on the same day in 1993. Guitarist Slash notes that the album is

not pretty and there are a lot of mistakes, but this is Guns N' Roses, not the fucking Mahavishnu Orchestra. It’s as honest as it gets.

Fans have noticed the overdubs and re-works put into the album by the 1999 Guns N' Roses lineup. For example, on “Mr. Brownstone,” Robin Finck’s backing vocals can be heard. The songs “Nightrain,” “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Mr. Brownstone,” “It’s so Easy,” “My Michelle,” “You’re Crazy,” “Used to Love Her,” “Out Ta Get Me,” “Rocket Queen,” “Estranged” and “Paradise City” all have vocal and/or instrumental overdubs.

Rose likely used the re-recordings as practice for the new lineup of the band, as it’s known that he had them re-record Appetite for Destruction to get a feel for the music as band-mates before embarking on Chinese Democracy.
