Inner Monologue Part 1

Julia Michaels

About “Inner Monologue Part 1”

Inner Monologue Pt. I is the first part of Michaels' first full length studio album with Republic Records. The EP, which is the first of two parts before fans can have a full album, feature Michaels as a singer, songwriter and composer, and it is executive produced with Grammy winner producer Ian Kirkpatrick.

The first part was released on January 24th, 2019, one day ahead of its schedule as shared by Michaels on her Twitter, one day before its release.

The first EP features two collaborations, with long time collaborator Selena Gomez and Niall Horan. It also features some highly anticipated tracks, like “Deep”, and some surprises for fans, who can expect the second part to follow the same realm of style of this one, even if Michaels originally planned to release one part of sad songs and one composed only by happy songs, but at the moment she is “all over the fucking map”, as shared in an interview with Billboard.

“Inner Monologue Part 1” Q&A

  • Why was the album called "Inner Monologue"?

As shared in an interview with Patrick Crowley for Billboard, the album was titled Inner Monologue to:

I decided to call it Inner Monologue because these are things that I think and feel on a daily basis. I’m either talking to myself or I’m talking to somebody else. So it’s like my deepest thoughts and feelings that I just want to let out into the universe and not keep inside.

  • Will the second part of "Inner Monologue" be much different?

As shared in an interview with Patrick Crowley for Billboard ,the two parts will probably stay in the same realm:

I think it will probably stay in the same realm. I just usually write about things that I know, and a majority of things that I know are relationship-based. I talk about connections and intimacy and love and heartbreak, because those are the things that I know best. And to me, all of those things – whether they’re painful or they’re beautiful – that is poetry to me. I was going originally do sort of all heartbreak songs and then the second part would be all love songs. But now I’m just all over the fucking map.
