Released after a 12-year-long hiatus from music, ‘So Strong’ shows Labi Siffre as a more political, mature man. Fully embracing the sound of the 1980s and almost fully doing away with his trademark acoustic guitar style represented an evolution in his art- tracks like ‘Nothin’s Gonna Change’, ‘Lovers’ and the famous ‘(Something Inside) So Strong’ are deeply rooted in the political landscape of 1987, especially Apartheid.
