About “LP1”

LP1 is the debut album from English singer Liam Payne, released on December 6, 2019 via Capitol Records. The album was first intended for release in January of 2018, but was pushed back to September of 2018. “Strip That Down” was first released as Payne’s debut solo single on May 19, 2017. The song proved to be a success on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when it peaked at number ten. Following the release of “Strip That Down”, Payne released two more singles in 2017: “Get Low” and “Bedroom Floor”. “Familiar” was released as the only single from the album in 2018. In September of 2019, “Stack It Up” was released as a single, as well as “All I Want (For Christmas)” in October, and “Live Forever”.

“Hurting Me” and “Before It Ends” will appear on the Target deluxe edition of the album, where as “Down”, “Trouble”, and “Nobody Else” will appear on the Japan edition of the album.

“LP1” Q&A

  • Translations

  • What sound is Liam trying to capture on this album?

While doing Lyric Challenge with Seventeen in October 2019, Liam said

…my albums not out yet, it’s coming out soon…those were my aims, Usher, Chris Brown, and Justin Timberlake are my three favorite artists, and I wanted to make sure I had that reference going through my album.

  • Why was an EP released before the album?

On August 16, 2018, Payne posted an emotional letter to fans explaining why the full length studio album would be delayed and why an EP would be released:

  • What contributed to the delay in releasing the album?

It was about finding the right records; I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so that caused a lot of delays. Also, there was one day where I wasn’t very famous, and then there was a day where I suddenly became ultra-famous – and the transition of that is a bit of a headf–k, really. I never predicted that I was going to be part of the biggest boy band in the world, and that it would be a huge thing that would go on for many years and take my life in a completely different [direction]. When we were in the band, we were literally writing an album in two weeks, and then it’d take a month to record. Finding your sound was a bit of a tricky thing to do; you didn’t really know what the audience wanted from you. There’s always that internal fear that you don’t really know what you’re getting yourself into."
