Circles Tracklist
Circles is Mac Miller’s sixth and final studio album and first posthumous album after his passing on September 7, 2018, due to an accidental drug overdose. This album is also meant to be a follow-up to Mac’s previous effort on Swimming, which detailed his struggles in life, and learning to move past his problems in order to become a better person, as he showed a strong desire to develop psychological growth and healing throughout the project. The two albums put together were meant to convey the phrase “Swimming in Circles”.
There was no news until January 8, 2020, when Mac’s Instagram posted for the first time since his death. The post announced the along with the cover art and that the album would be coming out on January 17, 2020. A brief note from Malcolm’s family was attached about how much this album meant to him, and how grateful they are to the fans for keeping his memory alive.
It was also reported by Malcolm’s family in the Instagram post, that American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion was heavily involved with Mac in the making of this album. After Mac’s passing, he took the helm in making sure this project was completely polished and ready for the fans to hear.

What did Mac's family say about the release of this project?
They submitted an Instagram post on Mac’s account stating the following:
Here we are. The act of having to write this at all feels surreal. At the time of his passing, Malcolm was well into the process of recording his companion album to Swimming, entitled Circles. Two different styles complimenting each other, completing a circle – Swimming in Circles was the concept. He had been working with Jon Brion, who after hearing some early versions of songs, cleared his calendar to help Malcolm fine-tune them. After his passing, Jon dedicated himself to finishing Circles based on his time and conversations with Malcolm. We are eternally grateful to Jon and to those who gave their best to the difficult and emotional task of putting out this body of work.
This is a complicated process that has no right answer. No clear path. We simply know that it was important to Malcolm for the world to hear it. One of the most difficult decisions in the process is how best to let people know about it – how to communicate meaningfully to let people know about it – how to communicate meaningfully while keeping sacred what should be kept sacred. So this will be the only post on any of his channels. Information regarding this release, his charity, and Malcolm himself will be found at @92tilinfinity. Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported him unconditionally through the years. We miss him. We are left to imagine where Malcolm was going and to appreciate where he was. Circles debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 for the chart week of February 1, 2020 after selling approximately 165,000 album-equivalents in its first week.
