“The Good Witch” Q&A

  • Translations

  • How did the process of making this album differ to Maisie's previous projects?

During a Zoom call with her fans to announce the album, Maisie Peters said:

It was a process unlike any project I’ve made so far. I don’t think I’ve ever put as much of myself in anything I’ve ever made. I don’t think I’ve ever been more truthful than I have been in this album. I mean, it’s crazy! I’ve obviously played it to Vera and to Cate and to all of my friends. We are all just sort of incredulous at how factual it is, and it’s wild because I write hundreds of songs, but it’s interesting how the ones that ended up becoming this album are just such an accurate reflection of how I lived and who I was and what I was going through.

  • How does Peters feel with the album?

This is my heart and soul, my blood on the page, the collection of stories that I’ve managed to capture in the past year. A true chronicle of my life in recent history, it is my own twisted version of a breakup album and it all draws upon the same couple of months’ worth of experiences and inspirations. It ducks and weaves between the real and surreal, and centres my own universe, of which I am of course the keeper of the keys and the holder of the cards – the good witch, if you will. It goes from light to dark in the flip of a switch and I hope takes you on a journey whereby the end you feel like you’ve gotten lost in someone else’s planet for a bit.

  • Which word does the singer consider that represents the album the most?

[…] I realised when I was looking through my next album, ‘obsessed’ would be the biggest word on my word map. I think women are pretty private with their obsessions, apart from to other women maybe, and sometimes it’s funny because people are like, ‘Oh, you’re so obsessed.’ And you’re like, ‘You have no idea.’ This is the surface of the obsession.
