Trying: Season 2 (Apple TV+ Original Series Soundtrack)

Released in conjunction with the second season of Apple TV+’s Trying, the 2021 album is a collection of original songs inspired by the show, all written and performed by Maisie Peters. While Guy Garvey wrote the music for season one of Trying, with songs performed by a variety of artists, Maisie Peters took over the responsibility for season two, opting to both write and perform every track.

“On this one we kind of wanted Maisie to be the central artist and the glue,” director and producer Jim O'Hanlon explained in an interview.

During the early stages of season two production, Maisie Peters was provided access to the show’s scripts, which she poured over to find inspiration for the songs. “I made notes on everything,” she explained in an interview. “Character notes, notes about London, imagery things because I like to put a lot of imagery in my songs… I would do any lines that were interesting to me, or overall what I felt like the tone of the episode was and what was the message of it…When I went later and I started writing songs for it, it was actually super easy, it was like having a cheat sheet.”
