Very

Pet Shop Boys

About “Very”

“Very” is the fifth studio album, by the Pet Shop Boys. Released shortly after Neil Tennett open declaration of his homosexuality to the media, the album is considered one of the band’s most personal records. Many of the songs deal with homosexuality and issues related to being in the closet in frank and open fashion (previous songs by the band dealt with the subject matter in an ambiguous fashion, since Tennett was still closeted).

The album is the first one by the band, in which the they themselves served as the main producers. In creating the album, the two sought to create a counterpart to their previous studio album “Behavior”; creating a more upbeat and positive album in comparison to “Behavior”’s dark tones and themes. The album was a huge success for the band, and is considered by many to be the group’s magnum opus.
