About “i/o”

i/o, Peter Gabriel’s tenth studio album (eighth of unreleased tracks), has a long history, teased since the release of the 2002’s UP, the album has had its course interrupted and re-engineered several times over the years, with its completion reached in 2022.

On November 8, 2022, Peter announced i/o – the tour for 2023 in which he will perform the new songs from the album accompanied by his regular bandmates Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché.

The first single from i/o, “Panopticom” was released on the first full moon of 2023, the “Wolf Moon”, on January 6. This started the release cycle, with a new song every month on the full moon. The cycle concluded on November 27, 2023 with the release of the twelfth and final song, “Live and Let Live”.

Gabriel also revealed through Full Moon Club that each track on i/o have three mixes, the Bright-Side Mixes by Mark “Spike” Stent, the Dark-Side Mixes by Tchad Blake and the In-Side Mixes (immersive Dolby Atmos versions) by Hans-Martin Buff. With one mix released on full moons and the others on new moons. The only exception to this rule was the last song “Live and Let Live” which had its three mixes released on the same day.

As with 1992’s US and 2002’s UP, each song from i/o features a piece of art by a different artist.
