Described by Sinéad O'Connor as a record about “survival”, Faith and Courage was O'Connor’s first release on Atlantic Records, after having released her previous four albums The Lion and the Cobra (1987), I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got (1990), Am I Not Your Girl? (1992), and Universal Mother (1994) on Chrysalis Records and Ensign Records. The album was delayed two years due to personal struggles and life changes.
Commercially, the album peaked at #55 on the Billboard 200 chart. A total of two singles were released: “No Man’s Woman” on April 21, 2000 and “Jealous” on October 31, 2000.
