Serena posted a video to the band’s Instagram page explaining the meaning of the album title:
“The Weight of the Mask” represents when you are going through hell internally and you’re really struggling with depression, anxiety and mental illness, and you feel this pressure and this obligation to have to wear a mask and pretend like everything’s fine, and then that mask almost becomes a barrier which isolates you behind it and prevents you from being able to make meaningful connections because you’re acting all the time, you’re pretending like everything’s fine all the time, so yeah, that is the meaning of the album title. I actually took the album title from one of the lyrics to our song “Lights Out” which is track number five on the album. That’s always how I pick an album title, I’ll go through all the lyrics for the whole album and pick out one line that I think summarizes the overall theme and atmosphere of the record, and that’s where “The Weight of the Mask” came from.
