folklore: the saltbox house chapter

This is the third chapter Taylor Swift curated from her eight album folklore, following another two: “folklore: the escapism chapter” and “folklore: the sleepless nights chapter”, which she released online on streaming services as EPs.

This chapter puts together “august” and “betty” but surprisingly put “the 1” instead of the other song that included in The Teenage Love Triangle: “cardigan”. It strengthens a fan theory that “cardigan” is Betty’s song where James eventually came to her party, and “the 1” is in an alternate universe where James did not.

The lyrics also detail the real-life story of Taylor’s ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal not showing up to her birthday party, make similarity to Betty’s situation.

There’s a collection of three songs I refer to as The Teenage Love Triangle. These three songs explore a love triangle from all three people’s perspectives at different times in their lives.
