Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)

Taylor Swift

About “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)”

Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is the third re-recorded album by Taylor Swift, which she created in order to regain ownership of her catalog from 2006 to 2017. The record was released on July 7, 2023.

On October 21, 2022, Swift released her tenth studio album, Midnights, with one of the promotional singles being “Bejeweled,” the album’s ninth track. The music video for this song contained a lot of easter-eggs which suggested that the next re-recording Swift was going to release would be of her third studio album, Speak Now, including orchestra versions of both “Enchanted” and “Long Live.”

Before releasing the full-length album, Swift released four songs on March 17, 2023, the same day as the opening show for her The Eras Tour. However, out of these four, only one a part of the Speak Now album, this being “If This Was a Movie (Taylor’s Version).”

The album’s cover and release date were announced on May 5, 2023, during Swift’s first Nashville show for The Eras Tour.

On June 5, 2023, Taylor revealed the full tracklist through social media posts. The tracklist includes six vault tracks + collaborations with Hayley Williams of Paramore and Fall Out Boy.

“Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” Q&A

  • Translations

  • What has the artist said about the release of the album?

It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk 😆) I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness. I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing… and living to speak about it. With six extra songs I’ve sprung loose from the vault, I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) with you on July 7th.

  • What has the artist said about the album?

I always looked at this album as my album, and the lump in my throat expands to a quivering voice as I say this. Thanks to you, dear reader, it finally will be. I consider this music to be, along with your faith in me, the best thing that’s ever been mine.

  • What did the artist say about the album when it was released?

It’s here. It’s yours, it’s mine, it’s ours. It’s an album I wrote alone about the whims, fantasies, heartaches, dramas and tragedies I lived out as a young woman between 18 and 20. I remember making tracklist after tracklist, obsessing over the right way to tell the story. I had to be ruthless with my choices, and I left behind some songs I am still unfailingly proud of now. Therefore, you have 6 From The Vault tracks! I recorded this album when I was 32 (and still growing up, now) and the memories it brought back filled me with nostalgia and appreciation. For life, for you, for the fact that I get to reclaim my work. Thank you a million times, for the memories that break our fall. 💥🐉🏰 Speak Now (MY VERSION!) is out now.

  • What are "vault tracks"? What do they signify?

Vault tracks are songs that didn’t appear on the original (not re-recorded) album. They are songs she wrote during the time of making the album and considered putting on it, but ultimately didn’t for some reason.

  • Are there physical copies of the album?

Along with the album reveal, physical copies on vinyl, CD, and cassette were put up on Taylor’s merch store.
