III

The Lumineers

About “III”

Aside from being the band’s third studio album, III gets its name from the first ten songs of the album, presented in three chapters.

The album is a family tree, spanning three generations: the grandmother, Gloria Sparks; her son, Jimmy Sparks; and her grandson, Junior Sparks. Each would be the focus of a chapter and EP prior to the album’s full release, which included three bonus songs, “Democracy,” “Old Lady,” and “Soundtrack Song.”

Each song from the album’s three chapters contains a cinematic music video, following each of the three protagonists. The videos culminate into a concise, roughly 40-minute music documentary.
