GOT the beat

GOT the beat is a South Korean supergroup formed by SM Entertainment. The group consists of seven members: BoA, Girls' Generation’s Taeyeon and Hyoyeon, Red Velvet’s Wendy and Seulgi, as well as aespa’s Karina and Winter.

GOT the beat was first teased on December 27, 2021, via the SMTOWN Twitter account. Multiple concept photos were also teased through social media platforms. The group is the first unit of SM Entertainment’s GOT:Girls On Top project, which will involve different unit combinations of SM’s female artists based on different concepts and themes. Per The Seoul Economic Daily, GOT the beat’s concept revolves around intense dance songs and performances.

The day after GOT the beat was revealed, the title of their debut track and special performance video was announced. They debuted on January 3, 2022 with “Step Back,” which was performed for the first time during SMTOWN LIVE 2022 : SMCU EXPRESS @KWANGYA on January 1, 2022.
