About Paul Wickens

Paul “Wix” Wickens (1956- ) is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter and producer best known for being a part of Paul McCartney’s touring band since 1989.

Wix started his career in the late 70s as a member of Kevin Coyne’s backing band, appearing on three of his albums. By the 80s, he’d found a niche for himself as a studio musician, performing on recordings by Nik Kershaw, Boy George, The Damned, Tim Finn, David Gilmour and the debut album by Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians. A lifelong friend of Douglas Adams, Wix also composed the music for the Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential Phases of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy radio program.

In 1989, Wix joined Paul McCartney’s backing band, where he’s remained ever since. He’s appeared on almost every studio album of McCartney’s since Flowers in the Dirt and, as its longest-running member, he serves as the musical director for the band.
